Week Beginning 23rd March 2020

What activities will you be doing this week?

Maths:

  • Our new unit of work is 'measurement length and height''
  • Measure to the nearest cm using a ruler or tape measure
  • Measure both length and height and focus on the importance of measuring from 0 rather than the end of the ruler or tape measure.
  • Measure larger objects using metres. Think about whether it is better to measure items in centimetres or metres and discuss the reasons why. Children do not yet convert from metres to centimetres; however they may see that 100 centimetres is the same as 1 metre and measurements can be written as mixed units e.g. the child is 1 metre and 25 centimetres tall.

English:

  • The theme this week is poetry.  Do you have a favourite poem?  Do you have any poetry books you can share at home?  Can you learn one of your favourite poems at home?  It would be wonderful if you could ask someone to video you reciting your favourite poem.  You might even be able to add some actions
  • Writing your own acrostic poem about someone in your family.  You could maybe write a few poems about different people or one about yourself.  Can you turn your poem into a piece of art by decorating it?
  • Reading activity: The Owl and the Pussy Cat poem and related questions
  • Spelling pattern: suffixes -ness, -ment and -full
  • Daily reading
  • Daily spelling practise
  • Handwriting
IPC:
  • We are going to start a new IPC unit of work which is called 'You are what you eat'
  • You have been sent a 'knowledge harvest' which is the first task to do
  • Can you keep a food diary for a week?
  • Design some healthy meals thinking about the different food groups.  I have shared a power point with you all to help you with this
This is going to be a very different week for us all and it may take us a little time to 'find our feet' and get into a routine.  Please of course do email if you have any questions.  I look forward to contacting the children during the week.  Please could all children send me an email from their school email account once it is up and running so I know we are 'good to go'.
