Wednesday 1st April

Task of the day:
We have Enrichment time on the timetable at the end of the day.  I'd love you to share with me what activity you choose to do.  You might want to start one from the Enrichment Activity sheet I shared with you at the start of the week.  I wonder if anyone is going to work towards earning a Blue Peter Badge?

Another busy day

From speaking to many of the children at our Google Meet this afternoon and reading my many emails, yet again the children have had a busy day.  The children have shared with me their knowledge of compound words in English and measuring in Maths.  I've also seen some lovely videos of children reading me stories and others making music with their musical instruments.  A very big well done to Harriet today who has achieved her Silver Reading Award.  Well done, Harriet.

Tuesday 31st March

Task of the day

It's going to be a very musical day today with singing this morning and music this afternoon.  I have shared a folder with all the children from Mrs Shevels for some singing this morning.

You might also enjoy clicking on the link below to sing one of our favourite Easter songs at school.  Do you remember it from last year?

A very busy Monday

I have thoroughly enjoyed receiving so many emails telling me how hard you have all been working.  I've seen some great English work all about compound words and some superb measuring in maths.  Harriet has also found time to practise the piano and help Constance with her work whilst Freddie has been busy in the garden and Sidney has been doing some extra PE.  Keep up the good work everyone!

Enrichment Activities

There are three sessions in the timetable for Enrichment Activities.  Below is a selection of activities for you to enjoy.  These can be completed in any order.  Some will be ongoing activities whilst others are shorter but can be repeated.  Have fun and don't forget to send me lots of pictures of you completing the activities.

Year 2 Google Meet

Our next Year 2 Google Meet will be on Tuesday 31st March at 2.00pm.  I will send out the invitations just prior to the meeting.  I wonder if we will all be able to remember how to mute our microphones so we can listen to our friends?!

Common Exception Words

For your reference, these are the Common Exception Words which children should be able to read and spell by the end of Year 2.  It is useful to have this to hand when writing to support the children to spell them correctly.

Monday 30th March

Task of the day
How many ways can you make the number 50?

Distance Learning Timetable

Please find below a streamlined timetable which prioritises key subjects such as English, mathematics, reading and IPC, while still providing opportunities for the children to participate in valuable co-curricular opportunities such as enrichment activities and music.  The planning I send to the children will mirror this timetable.  I hope you find it helpful.

Week Beginning 30th March 2020

What activities will we be doing this week?
English:
  • Learning about and making compound nouns
  • Continuing with our unit of work all about Poetry.  This week we will be writing Shape Poems all about Easter
  • Comprehension activity 'A Monster Surprise'
  • Daily reading
  • Regular spelling practise
  • Handwriting
Maths:
  • Comparing lengths of different objects.  Identifying which object is 'longer' and which is 'shorter'
  • Ordering objects according to length
  • Using the symbols <, > to compare two lengths
  • Using a ruler to measure lengths.  This week we will be measuring objects by placing them at different starting points on the ruler.  For example, the rubber measures from 6cm to 9cm, how long is the rubber?
  • Using mathematical operations to solve problems relating to length.  For example,n'a toy car is 12cm long and a toy truck is 7cm longer, how long is the truck?'
  • Regular Mathletics
  • Regular TTRockstars
IPC:
  • Learning about the importance of exercise and healthy eating
  • Sorting food into different food groups and give examples of foods for each group
  • Designing our own healthy meal.  This could be completed creatively by making a collage using art materials

The end of a busy week

27th March 2020

It was lovely to catch up with so many of you at our Google Meet this afternoon.  I am very impressed with how quickly the children are adapting to using technology to support our learning.  Within minutes they all understood how to mute their microphone during the meet thus enabling us to take turns in the conversation.  It was wonderful to see them all so happy and keen to share what they have been doing with their friends.  I will email you all next week with a time for our next one!
So much has happened in the past seven days.  Is it only a week ago since school closed?  Today has been another busy day for the children.  I've loved hearing of all the successes in the spelling test, had pictures of Oscar busy baking bread to support our IPC work and a story all about Cinderella by Harriet.  Well done to Annie and Oscar who have achieved Mathletics certificates this week.  Especially Oscar who has achieved a Silver certificate.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend and get some well earned rest ready for another busy week next week.

Friday 27th March

Task of the day
Well it's Friday and the end of a very busy week for us all.  It's spelling test day and hopefully you'll all have time to finish off the activities from this week.  If you get time I wonder if you could choose your favourite book to read.  It would be great if you could send me a picture of your book so we can share them with our friends on the blog.
I'm looking forward to our Google Meet at 2.00pm.  You might be able to show us all your book there?

Another Busy Day

Thursday 26th March 2020

It has been another wonderfully sunny day and I can see from many of your emails that you have been making the most of it.  Oscar and Harriet have been busy writing some great acrostic poems.  I wonder if anyone else wrote one today?  Oscar has also been busy building models with his Lego, Harriet has practised her recorder and Lyla has been reading stories to children at school  I hope you all enjoyed the 'Teddy Bear P.E. Challenge' and that you have had time to practise your spellings ready for your test tomorrow.  I would love to see photographs of how you all get on.

Thursday 26th March 2020

Fun in the sun

25th March 2020
Wow, what a lovely sunny day we have had today.  It's hard to think that it's March, when I had my lunch in my garden today it felt more like Summer.  Let's hope this warm sunny weather lasts!  It was wonderful to catch up with many of the children today at our Google Meet.  They were all so happy to see each other which was heart warming to see.  I will email you all in due course with the time for our next one.  As always, a highlight of my day is receiving emails telling me what you have all been doing and yet again you amaze me with all your work.  I've had pictures of beautiful rainbows coloured in reading the colour names in French, a superb acrostic poem by Oscar all about tigers and maths galore.  Keep working hard girls and boys you are doing so well.

Wednesday 25th March

Task for the day
Don't forget we're having a Year 2 Google Meet today at 2:00pm.  I will send you all the invite to your school email address just prior to the meeting.  I wonder if you can think of one of your favourite jokes to share with your friends during our meet?  Here's one to get us started:
Where do cows go on Friday nights?
The answer will be revealed tomorrow at 2:00pm!

Smiling Faces

24th March 2020

It has been lovely to be in touch with you all today.  I am incredibly impressed with how well everyone is doing in adjusting to our new learning pattern.  As always please do net hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.  A special 'well done' to Darcey today for completing her 'Silver Reading Award'.  Here are a few photos from today.

Tuesday 24th March

Question of the day
Can you create a rainbow to put in a window at your house?  Can you remember how many colours are in a rainbow?  Do you know the order of the colours?  You could think of your own mnemonic to remember the order?  I would love to share some on the blog later.

Hard at work

23rd March 2020
I have been at school today looking after those children whose parents are working.  We did some Maths and English, read some books, thought of animals for different letters of the alphabet and painted rainbows to put in our windows to spread happiness.  It is lovely receiving pictures of what you are all doing.  A special 'well done' to Annie for thinking of an animal for each letter of the alphabet and writing them so beautifully.
