Deep Thinking!

In RE this morning we started to think about questions, and why some are easy and some are hard to answer.  After lots of discussion the children wrote their own 'I wonder why ....' questions.  We then shared these and the children offered their ideas.  Here are the children's questions - how would you answer them?

I Wonder Why ....

... people have different skin colours

... my mum and dad chose the name they gave me

... water is so healthy

... I have not tidied my bedroom

... flowers are so pretty

... why we have trees and bushes

... people who are struck by lightening survive

... urine is yellow

... the sea is blue

... people are mean to each other

... my brother is so annoying

... we have to do so much work at school

... horses eat grass

Scientists!

The Year 1 and Year 2 children enjoyed being scientists last week when they had the experience of using the microscopes from the senior school.  Our new topic for IPC is 'Flowers and Insects' and therefore the children were able to look much more closely at ants, bees, butterflies, spiders  and flies.  The children we amazed at how closely they could see each part of the insects and this helped them to draw a labelled diagram.  The children also liked seeing the colours of the flies and butterflies as they we really bright under the light.

The Tomato Spider

Today Year 2 have been learning about the fact that not everything is real on the internet!
Please look at the link below with your child and talk about why it might be fake. In class, we also looked for other websites about Tomato Spiders. We couldn't find any! That was a big clue! Can you find any websites about Tomato Spiders?

If the link doesn’t work you can just Google ‘Tomato Spider’.
Please leave a comment for us below about your findings. We promise to respond to all comments, next Wednesday, at the start of our Computing lesson.
Have fun!

Pizza Making

The children in Year 1 and 2 had a lovely afternoon making their own pizzas.  This activity saw the completion of their latest IPC topic, 'We are what we eat'.  In preparation, the children designed their own pizzas, thinking carefully about suitable, healthy toppings.  They also thought about the construction of pizza boxes and had a go at making their own box using a net.  The children thoroughly enjoyed making their pizzas and there was eager anticipation while we waited for the pizzas to come out of the oven!  I think the best part for the children was eating their pizzas at the end of the day - we had some very happy faces!!  Here are our photographs.
