Children In Need

Everyone enjoyed raising money for Children in Need on Friday.  The children particularly enjoyed coming to school in their home clothes and buying lots of yummy cakes at our bake sale.  A big thank you to all of you who brought cakes in to support this very worthy cause.

Making Toys

The children in Year 2 have been working on the technology element of their topic 'The Magic Toymaker'.  The children have been designing and making their own games.  Having played a range of board games to gain some inspiration, the children have worked in small groups to design their own game.  They have tried to base their games on a well known, traditional game, but have added their own modern twist!  Having planned their games, the children have worked hard to make them, including the counters.  They are just about finished and the children are looking forward to testing out their creations.

More finished zoetropes!

Here are the rest of our zoetropes that the children have been making during our IPC lessons.

Zoetropes

Following the success of our thaumatropes earlier in the week, the children have been making their own zoetropes.  The children designed their own version of this Victorian optical toy.  Although much more tricky than the thaumatrope, the children have persevered really well to complete this task.  Here are a few pictures of our completed work.

Thaumatropes

In our IPC topic, 'The Magic Toymaker', the children have been making their own thaumatropes this week.  The children have thought about optical illusions, particularly those found in toys.  They had great fun deciding on their designs and testing them out once they had finished.

Here are a few pictures of the children's work.

Poetry

This week the Year 2 children have completed the English unit, 'Songs and Repetitive Poetry'.  They have looked at many poems and were particularly enthusiastic about the song / poem 'London's Burning'.  Having thought carefully about the syllables needed for each line, and the punctuation, the children have written their own poems.  When reading the children's work, remember to sing the tune of 'London's Burning' in your head!
