Finding out about the past

Last week, the Year 1 and 2 children welcomed Mr and Mrs Mawer into school to support their learning in history.

The children were able to find out what transport was like in the past and how Mr and Mrs Mawer travelled to school, to the shops and on holiday.  The children learnt lots of information and had had the opportunity to ask lots of questions.  They were surprised to find out that cars didn't have any seat belts, radios, electric windows or air bags and the seats on the buses were made from wood.  They were also surprised to hear that Mr and Mrs Mawer didn't go on an aeroplane until they were nearly 40 years old!

We decided that our methods of transport were much more comfortable today.

A big thank you to Mr and Mrs Mawer for giving up their time to help us with our learning.

Maps

Over the last week, the children in Year 2 have completed some geography work as part of their current IPC unit 'From A to B'.  Having thought about the school grounds and local area, they have had a go at creating their own maps.  They looked carefully at many aerial views of the area, as well as considering the different uses for the buildings.  Having worked hard to draw their maps, they coloured them and added a key to make them clearer and easier to follow.
All of the children worked really hard and produced some great maps - well done Year 2!
