Welcome back to the final half term of the school year.

  • Revising all Year 2 High Frequency words to ensure we can read and spell them
Maths:
  • Daily practise of 2, 5 and 10 times tables
  • Counting in 2s, 5s and 10, forwards and backwards
  • Recognising 2 digit numbers made from base 10 equipment
  • Identifying 1 more, 1 less, 10 more and 10 less than a given number
  • Completing 100 square jigsaw puzzles

  • Looking at maps of the world.  Talking about different countries and oceans

Week beginning 18th May

What will be learning during the final week before a half term break?
English:
  • Adding '-er' for comparative verbs
  • Writing newspaper reports about the Cornoavirus outbreak
  • Learning about the different parts of the text in a newspaper article
  • Spelling pattern: using an apostrophe to mark where a letter is missing (contractions)
  • Sharing our daily story 'The Enchanted Wood'
Maths:
  • Telling the time to 5 minute intervals
  • Learning how many minutes are in 1 hour, how many are in half an hour, a quarter of an hour
  • Solving problems relating to telling the time.  For example, 'If I get on a nus at 2 o'clock and my bus journey takes 20 minutes, what time will I get off the bus?'

  • Playing the game 'race to lose a tooth'

Year 2 are the winners

Wow it was a tough TTRockstars Battle this week but Year 2 you did it once again.  Well done for working so hard to beat Miss Hall.  Our final battle before the half term break will start bright and early on Monday morning and finish on Friday.  Can you beat Miss Hall three times in a row?

  • Big Write: Writing our own story based on 'Gorialla'
  • Sharing our new story with THS Ted.  The story which THS has chosen to share with you all will be revealed on Monday
Maths:
  • Starting our new unit of work all about 'Time'
  • Making an analogue clock
  • Setting and telling the time to 'o clock', 'half past', 'quarter past' and 'quarter to'
  • TTRockstars: our new class Battle will start on Monday morning and finish on Friday.  Are Year 2 going to beat Miss Hall again this week?

  • Learning all about our taste buds
  • Carrying out an investigation using our taste buds to taste different flavours
  • Choosing an animal and researching how they taste their food

Year 2 are victorious

8th May

Year 2 certainly rose to the challenge in our first TTRockstars Battle and convincingly beat Miss Hall!  Well done to all those who took part.  Our next battle will start on Monday 11th May and finish on Friday 15th May.  Miss Hall is going to work harder this time.  I wonder if you will win again?


Hard at work

7th May
This has been a short week with only four days to fit everything in before the long Bank Holiday weekend.  This hasn't stopped us all from working hard and also having lots of fun.

The Battle is on!
Well done to Leopold Cardenas and Sunshine Rockingchair.  They are currently the only two children in Year 2 who are doing all they can to win the battle against Miss Hall.  Come on everyone else, you're going to all need to help and work as a team to beat Miss Hall this week.  You have until Friday!

  • Studying the story 'The Tunnel' by the author Anthony Browne.  Have got any stories at home written by Anthony Browne?
  • Studying what a story plan for 'The Tunnel' might have looked like
  • Planning and writing our own 'Adventure Story' based on 'The Tunnel'
  • In our story we are going to try and include:
      • Capital letters and full stops
      • Adjectives
      • Similes
  • Spellings: the suffixes '-less' and '-ly'
  • Continuing our story time sharing the story: 'The Hen Who Wouldn't Give Up'

  • Daily 'Flashbacks'
  • Revise our work about 'Directions'  Giving someone directions to follow

  • Making shape sequences with 2D shapes
  • Making shape patterns with 3D shapes

  • Have you beans started to grow that we planted last week?
  • Different parts of a plant: seed, seedling, root, stem, leaves, flower, fruit, tendril, shoot, petal, stigma, stamen, pollen
  • Creating a picture to show the different parts of a plant.  Can you use resources you have at home to help you?  Cupcake cases make good flowers and string makes great roots!
  • Cutting up fruit to find some seeds.  Can you plant them and help them grow?

A round up of our week

1st May 2020

It has been a great first week back for us all and the children have returned to their distance learning with commitment and excitement following our Easter break.  As we head into the weekend the TTRockstars Battle has begun.  Girls and boys, you have 7 days to see if you can beat Miss Hall!  Let the battle commence!
