Investigating Sound

30th September 2019

In our IPC lesson today we explored how we could make different sounds with a variety of objects.  We discovered the pitch of a sound can be changed as well as the volume.  When we put a lot of water in a glass and tapped it with a spoon it made a lower sound than when we only put a little water in.  The further we stretched an elastic band, the higher the sound and the more beads we shook in a tin, the louder the sound.

Today we learned a noun can be a person, place or thing

Year 2 School Council Members

27 September 2019

In our Form Time this week we had the difficult job of selecting two people from our class to be members of School Council.  We talked together about what being on the School Council meant and all thought about if this was something we would like to do.  It was wonderful that lots of us were keen to take on this role and we decided the fairest way to choose would be to draw names out of our hat.  We are pleased to announce that Martha and Molly will be our representatives for this term.

Thank You Oscar

24 September 2019

We need to say a very big 'Thank you' to Oscar who arrived at school on Monday morning clutching something very special.  Having read on our blog that we were going to be enjoying the story of 'Hansel and Gretel' this week, Oscar spent time at the weekend creating a wonderful story 'tub' for us to use when reading the story.  This really brought the story to life and he even had a lollipop on the top for us all, just like the 'house of sweets'.  Thank you, Oscar.

Pearl of Africa Children's Choir

What an amazing start we had to our Tuesday morning when we welcomed the Pearl of Africa Children's Choir to assembly.  We were all spell bound by their singing and dancing.

Scientists at work

23 September 2019

In our IPC lesson today we became real 'scientists' and carried out an investigation.  We learnt all about sound waves and how sound travels.  We began by experimenting with the outdoor telephones and discovered we could hear our friends speaking at the other end of the phone as the sound waves travelled along the tube.  We then set to work and made our own 'telephones' using cups and string.  We used these to talk to our friends and discussed how the sound waves travelled along the string.  We also questioned whether the sound quality changed depending on the length of the string?
