Bookings are now open for our next Big Adventures Holiday Camp which runs from Monday 20th to Friday 24th April. Many children in Year 2 are already signed up. If your child would like to join in the fun we would love them come.
Congratulations to Lyla who has achieved her Bronze Level Rainbow Reading Award.
It is wonderful to see how much all the children are enjoying reading at the moment. Not a lesson goes by without hearing the words 'please can I read Miss Hall' from the children which is wonderful.
What a brilliant start we had to our day today. Even before 9.00am we had been busy practising our times tables. We are all keen to be on track to know our 2, 5, 10 and even 3 times table facts by the time we finish Year 2!
Today we were treated to a very special afternoon when a past pupil of our school, Mrs Leach came to share all her wonderful memories of life at Queen Victoria High School. We learnt how different her school days were to ours but were also fascinated to discover that some traditions have been passed down through the generations of school pupils. Whilst Mrs Leach was in a class of over 30 children aged between 5 and 7 years, she was awarded with house points just as we are. We learnt that she used to go home for lunch, there was a fireplace in her classroom and only the staff and sixth form pupils could use the front door of the school. Mrs Leach used to visit our school site here at Teesside High School to play fixtures with Cleveland School and she showed us the original plans for the new school building which has become the wonderful school Teesside High School which we all enjoy today.

We had a great end to our week today when we went off down to the woods to bury our Time Capsule as part of our IPC studies. We all worked together to agree what things we should include. The objects ranged from photographs of us all, some money, some house points and the latest school newsletter. We are all hopeful the time capsule stays safely buried for many years to come.
Well done to Oscar who earned a Mathletics certificate this week. We all spent a little time today using Mathletics and enjoyed 'live mathletics' challenges. Let's see if everyone can get a certificate next week.
We were all very excited to start our new unit in Maths today all about statistics when we heard that chocolate was involved. We were given the task of drawing a tally chart to record the different coloured smarties in a tube. Once the hard work had been done of sorting, counting, recording and analysing the results of course we all enjoyed eating the smarties!

I hope you all received the email regarding the 'Rainbow Reading Awards'. All the children were very excited to come home with their booklets today to start working towards their Bronze award. There was a real 'buzz' in the Reading Area of our classroom as the children busily found books they would like to read.
We are all working really hard in Maths this week. We started by thinking about odd and even numbers and remembering it is the last digit which determines if a number is odd or even. We then moved onto multiplying and dividing by 5 and 10. As part of the Year 2 Curriculum, it is expected that children know their 2, 5 and 10 times tables. As much practise with these at home as possible would really support the children. A fun activity we have enjoyed in class has been using our times table cards and asking a friend a question such as 'What is 5x2? Our friend then has the challenge of finding that multiplication card and turning it over to reveal the answer.
