Week Beginning 11th November 2019

9th November 2019

What will we be learning this week?

English
  • Revising 'ie' sound and alternative graphemes: 'i_e', 'igh', 'y', 'i'
  • Using subordinating clauses 'when', 'if', 'that' and 'because'
  • Our text genre this week is 'recipes'.  We are going to be looking at a variety of recipes and recipe books.  We will then be following a recipe to make some playdough.
  • If you have any child friendly recipe books at home you would be willing to share with us we would love to have a look at them this week.
Maths
  • Continuing our work on money
  • Adding £ and pence.  When doing so we will be recording it in words rather than with a decimal point.  For example, £5 and 30p not £5.30
  • Comparing different amounts, who has the most, who has the least?
  • Selecting the correct money to pay for priced objects.  Could we make the same amount using different coins/notes?
IPC
  • Carrying out investigations to discover how we can speed up and slow down movement.  We will be exploring the speed at which a car travels down a ramp.  Will the surface of the ramp change the speed?  What about the angle of the ramp?
  • Push and pull survey around school.  How many push and pull forces can we identify?  How many push and pull forces can you identify at home?  Feel free to email some pictures of these, we would love to add them to our IPC display.
Events this week:
  • Monday: Remembrance Service 10.30am.  You are all warmly invited to join us for this special service where we will be laying our class poppy wreath.  Please make sure all children are wearing a poppy on the blazer on Monday
  • Wednesday: Individual and class photographs.  Please make sure all children have their hats in school for this
  • Friday: Children in Need Day.  You should have received details regarding this.  If not please do ask.  We are looking forward to a school pyjama party.  Children will need to bring some money to school to take part in fundraising activities.  Please note we will be participating in Forest School as normal so children will need wellies, school tracksuit and school waterproof coat.
  • Nativity Rehearsals.  These will be stepping up a gear this week.  The children are doing really well learning their lines.  Please could you continue to practise these at home remining the children to speak clearly and with expression.
