Week Beginning 20th January

What will we be learning this week?

English:

  • Using apostrophes for contractions to show where letters are missing.  E.g. cannot - can't, he will - he'll
  • Learning the features for writing a postcard
  • Writing postcards.  If you have any postcards at home please do feel to send them in, we would love to share them
  • Continue reading our class text 'The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark'
  • Revising phoneme 'oa' and alternative graphemes: 'o_e', 'oe'
  • Adding -ing, -ed, -er, -est and y to words ending in -e with a consonant before it
Maths:
  • Continue to learn the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.  As much practise as possible at home will really help with this
  • Starting our new unit of work on Statistics
  • Making tally charts to record the different colours of smarties in a tube (I'm sure we'll all enjoy eating smarties afterwards!)
  • Drawing and interpreting pictograms where 1 picture equals 1 unit
IPC:
  • Creating a time capsule all about our class.  We will work together to decide which 10 items we would like to include.  We will then collate these items and choose a suitable container
  • During our woodland session on Friday we will be burying our time capsule
Special events this week:
  • Woodland school on Friday.  Please ensure all children have their school tracksuit and outdoor coat in school.  They will also need wellingtons and their school winter hat.  It would be most beneficial if children could all bring a plastic bag for the muddy boots afterwards!
  • Saturday 25th is our School Open Morning 10.00-12.00.  You are all warmly invited to come along and enjoy lots of different activities across the school.  We would love to show your friends and families around.
